9rules: One Year Anniversary

Today is the one-year anniverary of the first site added to 9rules. I wasn’t a member of 9rules then, definitely wasn’t the Community Director but I remember the first site added and I’m pleased to say the site is still in the network. Who was it?

Strange Brand of Forty Media . This is the 9rules announcement.

Looking back at the first sites added it’s obvious how much design played an important part in getting accepted. Design is important but it’s not the only thing. Consistency in writing and audience participation are important as well. Design is only one part of what makes a great blog. It shows how 9rules has evolved over time, and I like that. Ok, I love that. I love looking back and seeing improvements. Yes, there have been mistakes along the way but they’ve been learning experiences.

I’m fortunate to be involved in the next evolutionary stage. Just thinking about it makes me smile because I love the fact we’re leading the way with new concepts…not following current trends without adding something new.  9rules started out different from day one. We intend to keep it that way.

Happy Anniversary 9rules!

No. If they did I wouldn’t be looking around wondering why there isn’t any competition. Thank goodness the guys and I are naturally motivated.

Ooops…did I say that? The guys damn testosterone is rubbing off on me…

Ditto - not like I’m going to get on Tyme’s bad side. :)

Dang it, did it again. Repressed rage and testosterone isn’t a good thing. Bad hands…very very bad.

I agree about the professionalism. I know it’s not easy to do. You’re a doll you know that?

What you said about evolving is very true. It’s important for companies to look back and see significant changes outside of well, adding new sites. :)

LMBAO you guys are a trip. That’s why I love 9rules now that I know about them. Balance with fun and great reads. The other networks are so…um…boring.

    27. Victor Says:

In the copy process they didn’t include fun, that’s why.

I never heard of 9rules until Tyme started writing about (ripping apart) Scrivs. Next thing I know she’s in the network. Then a Community Director. Interesting progression there isn’t it?

      Happy anniversary!

I know why Tyme’s a bit moody (besides the other thing). No WoW - it’s maint. day. How are you and Scrivs doing on that anyway?

Posted on May 2nd, 2006 at 10:58 am

    32. Felicia Says:

Um Roscoe, they probably aren’t playing now???

Last I saw the blankety-blank-blank-blanker was a lvl 50. My rogue is 43 or 44 (don’t remember) and the warlock is 15. I love the warlock.

    36. Victor Says:

Oooh…geez Tyme. Why don’t you say what you really feel. :)

I finally made lvl 60 on my Priest. I have a level 60 rogue and a level 60 warrior. Not sure what I’m going to do next.

Posted on May 2nd, 2006 at 11:05 am

    37. Alan Says:

Three level 60s? How long have you been playing?

    38. Ruth Jackson Says:

Happy anniversary! I’m looking forward to the new features.

Other networks suck. Denton’s is the next closest one to fun but the bloggers never interact so I don’t read.

      Victor congrats on your priest.

And Tyme just made a comment about what do to about comments going off topic.

Posted on May 2nd, 2006 at 11:09 am

    39. Bonita Says:

Isn’t this technically on topic because Scrivs and Tyme do play WoW (just not together) and Tyme will most likely login today to get rid of repressed rage?

Posted on May 2nd, 2006 at 11:09 am

    40. Felicia Says:

Oh, that’s good Bonita. Very smooth.

These are the type of entries I enjoy. A bit of attitude - like you used to have. Lately you’ve been so stark over here.

      Stark? Lord help me.

    44. Phillipe Says:

Had to remind myself where I was.

Posted on May 2nd, 2006 at 11:17 am

    45. Charles M. Says:

Right after I typed that I thought “crap”. What I meant is that those passionate entries about change are gone. I understand why - her position within 9rules would make it seem like it’s biased.

Posted on May 2nd, 2006 at 11:18 am

    46. Felicia Says:

      What an adjective. :)

As long as she discloses she’s got a management position within a network I don’t see what the problem is. Most don’t.

But isn’t 9rules different? They have zero control over their members blogs so if she talks about blog networks she’s not talking about 9rules. The business models are completely different.

Posted on May 2nd, 2006 at 11:20 am

    47. Alison A. Says:

I’d love to see Tyme critique a site that didn’t get in. Explain what was wrong and what could be improved. People would learn from it and there would be better blogs.

Posted on May 2nd, 2006 at 11:21 am

    48. Ron G. Says:

That is an excellent idea! It would give exposure to the blog too. A blogger needs to be able to accept criticism. As long as the critique is fair. No one more fairer than Tyme.

Posted on May 2nd, 2006 at 11:23 am

    49. Phillipe Says:

That’s a really good idea. There would be enough sites to have enough content for a long time - until the next round. The blogger might appreciate to. I’d like to know why I didn’t get in.

Posted on May 2nd, 2006 at 11:25 am

    50. Cathy Says:

That’s a lot of work though but I can see the benefit. I’d like to know why some sites didn’t make it and some did. I think there should be some balance. Do why one made it, why one did not.

Posted on May 2nd, 2006 at 11:26 am

    51. Felix J. Says:

Wouldn’t there be some sites that wouldn’t want if public knowledge that they didn’t make it?

Posted on May 2nd, 2006 at 11:28 am

    52. Charymn Says:

Couldn’t there be a a check box on the submission form asking whether they want to know why they didn’t get in?

Posted on May 2nd, 2006 at 11:31 am

    53. Marlene A. Says:

With a disclaimer of course saying if the changes are made it doesn’t guarantee admission.

Some blogs suck though. How would Tyme say that nicely?

Posted on May 2nd, 2006 at 11:32 am

    54. Terence Says:

She’s never mean with her critiques, she’s honest and factual. I think many bloggers would benefit from it.

Posted on May 2nd, 2006 at 11:33 am

    55. Felicia Says:

And we’re talking about her like she’s not here. Booyah! :)

Where would these critiques be? I don’t think it should be on the 9rules blog. Maybe within one of the communities?

Posted on May 2nd, 2006 at 11:34 am

    56. Phillipe Says:

How about here? Or another off site. If they aren’t members they shouldn’t benefit like members being in the community.

If done properly it could be a very good resource for bloggers new and old.

Posted on May 2nd, 2006 at 11:36 am

    57. Angela Says:

I LOVE the idea. I never “really” understood what makes a good blog vs. a bad blog. It’s very subjective.

Posted on May 2nd, 2006 at 11:42 am

    58. Henry Says:

I think it should be separate too. The opportunity is there to get some really good feedback from other bloggers too. It’s like free consulting.

Posted on May 2nd, 2006 at 11:44 am

    59. Janet Says:

If it is design perhaps they could get some pointers from the Design community? It might lead to new customers for them.

Posted on May 2nd, 2006 at 11:45 am

    60. Marvin Says:

The blogger would need a thick skin. If they worked hard on the blog and it’s rejected that can be tough.

Posted on May 2nd, 2006 at 11:52 am

    61. Felicia Says:

Marvin most blogs don’t make it in. Didn’t they receive over 500 entries last time? How many made it in - perhaps 50?

Posted on May 2nd, 2006 at 11:54 am

    62. Antoine Says:

No other blog network is doing that. I bet Tyme could analyze a site very quickly.

The question is whether she wants to? Especially now.

Posted on May 2nd, 2006 at 11:55 am

    63. Ernie V. Says:

Perhaps in time she will be open to the idea. Don’t have to worry about anyone stealing it because no one else is doing the same thing.

Posted on May 2nd, 2006 at 11:56 am

    64. Shaun M. Says:

      Happy anniversary.

I love the idea. I’d read the site. Matter of fact it would be sweet to add some other articles about blogging in general. Common mistakes people make, etc.

Posted on May 2nd, 2006 at 12:18 pm

    65. Tyme Says:

I make one anniversary entry and it turns into how to work me to death. Thanks…appreciate it.

Posted on May 2nd, 2006 at 12:19 pm

    66. Phillipe Says:

OOh…there could be a series on Tyme learning design. If she can learn it anyone can! Take an article from the Design and experiment with it. Was the tutorial good enough to teach someone who can’t design?

Posted on May 2nd, 2006 at 12:21 pm

    67. Felicia Says:

Tyme it would give you something to do while you want on the guys to bang out your ToDo lists.

Posted on May 2nd, 2006 at 12:22 pm

    68. Tyme Says:

Felicia - that’s a pro because I’m always waiting on them to do something. Especially blankety-blank-blank-blanker.

Posted on May 2nd, 2006 at 12:24 pm

    69. Alan T. Says:

      Hmm…Tyme’s still mad I see.

The idea could be expanded to all the communities. Tyme could pick an article and then talk about it. If it’s offsite it will have it’s own traffic that can be pushed to the members.

Greater interaction with members and non-members.

      Did anyone see this? http://www.thinkvitamin.com/

      Is this what you mean?

Posted on May 2nd, 2006 at 12:30 pm

    71. Felicia Says:

What I’m thinking of blows that away. That site is geared to a very small community. Not the average users. Those people relate better to bloggers than non-bloggers.

Posted on May 2nd, 2006 at 12:34 pm

    72. Phillipe Says:

Felicia you’re right. Those types of sites cater to to designers, programmers, etc. which is great. It’s over the top for those wanting to learn.

Posted on May 2nd, 2006 at 1:07 pm

    73. Brenda Says:

I love the idea. Tyme I hope you consider it.

Posted on May 2nd, 2006 at 1:30 pm

    74. Lisa C. Says:

Excellent idea. Might be best to approach the idea when Tyme is in a more receptive mood.
