Blog power

The BBC posted an article about blogging. There was an interesting quote by Andrew Nachison, Director of the Media Center:

“You could look at that as a moment when audiences exercised a new form of power, to choose among many more sources of information than they have never had before,” he says.

I think this is a very true statement. I noticed with my personal reading I subscribe to less magazines because I either get the same or equivalent information in my newsreader. I receive the daily newspaper for local news but the other sections of the newspaper are almost meaningless because the information is online, most times before the newspaper arrives.

Companies are appealing to children with blogs. My daughter told me a couple of months ago that My Scene Barbie has a blog. It will only be a matter of time when Mattel wisens up, gets rid of the flash site and makes the blog available via RSS. I have to admit it’s marketing brilliance…get to the parent through the child. :)
