The Microsoft Show

I just read a press release from The Podcast Network:

The number of downloads rose from 91,965 in May to 205,766 in June, more than doubling growth in a single month.

Since launching in mid-February, the network has served up over 500,000 show downloads, with more than 200,000 in June alone. TPN now has approximately 57,000 weekly subscribers living in more than 25 countries.

Wow…that’s a lot of growth. Congrats!

Oh, let’s not forget this part:

In just four months the world’s first commercial podcasting network has launched 30 weekly shows with a further six due to launch this month.

As I mini-announced in a podcast my show is one of those six shows, The Microsoft Show. I received a lot of positive feedback regarding the show both in comments and email.

I mentioned before that I used to actively write about Microsoft games - I had a mini-gaming network. I was really hyped about Microsoft back then. As we all know Microsoft slumped over the past couple of years but I’m excited about what’s coming out in the next year or two and I decided I wanted to pick up where I left off except expand it from only gaming to Microsoft in general.

I’m hesitant to say everything I want to do with the show until the site is up, and I’m ready to go. I’ll be damned if someone is going to steal my idea. :) But I wanted the show to be entertaining and informative. I wanted my love for podcasting and my rejuvenated passion for Microsoft to shine through. More importantly I wanted to do something different.

I’m excited about the show and I’m looking forward to doing more. While The Podcast Network site is being created I’m going to do another one on Not Too Geeky - only because I want to test and play.

I received a lot of questions about the editing process and why it took so long. Short answer: I had no clue as to what I was doing. :) I mixed the music myself so going through loops took some time. Then I had to actually record all the segments and skits. I recorded each news item and skit separately so I could drag/drop them around in the order I wanted. Then some of the new items had background music behind it so I had to get the volume right so you could hear my voice and the music. I’ve streamlined things so that it will be much easier next time. The good thing is - I heard my voice so much I’m used to hearing it. :)

So that’s the story. Tyme will be doing The Microsoft Show for The Podcast Network. Is my excitment showing yet? :)

Excellent! Please interview Robert Scoble, someone from the IE team, and someone from the RSS department. Oh, and someone from the Office team. And gaming developers..lots of them. And J Allard from the Xbox team. Major Nelson would be cool too.

There’s a bunch of people I’d like to hear from.

Congrats! Can people send you Windows questions?

I looked at some of the shows on the podcast network (and subscribed to some) and I noticed some post only the podcast post and some post like a blog. Which one are you going to do?

I second J Allard but I’d like to hear from employees who might not be as well known but are equally important.

I second the suggestion to interview someone from the RSS team. I heard some interesting things are coming to Windows and I’d like to gain a better perspective on it.

Thanks for the interview suggestions. I’m on it! :)

Rachel - I don’t mind if people send me questions. I’m going to have a call-in line especially for that (and any suggestions or feedback).
