Tyme White: 9rules Community Director

9rules has a new Community Director - me. If you read my blog you’ll know that one of my passions is helping people achieve their goals and if it is blogging related, always keeping the reader’s interest as a priority. In the end writers want their work to be appreciated and readers want quality content. It’s a very simple concept yet challenging to achieve.

When 9rules launched Communities I was blown away. There is so much potential there but from a business standpoint I know it needs tender loving care to reach full potential. If the 9r guys are doing that and everything else…that’s a lot. So I suggested appointing someone to do what they wanted to do but didn’t have the time to do right now with everything else going on. I know from experience that sometimes letting go can be hard. Scrivs asked if I would be interested in taking the challenge. So I thought about it.

Each Community is different and unique. Wouldn’t it be great if each Community excelled the way the members wanted it to excel? And they had someone to help them accomplish their goals? For me, that’s like being a kid in a candy store because that’s what I do at Not Too Geeky…I help people. I interact with readers…and we have a blast.

Each Community will have Community Leader(s) - some of the Communities already do. My job is to help them accomplish what they need to do and since that is different for each Community I can’t describe it here because honestly they are coming up with some jaw-dropping ideas. I get to help them do it.

Lucky me. :)

*Giving you and Scrivs a standing ovation*

Excellent! It’s a perfect match and I didn’t see it coming.

Finding sites is much easier. I found some I missed before. I’m confused - some communities have featured posts and some don’t?

Congrats! Can you give any details?

Felix - eventually all the Communities will have leaders. Some Communities will have more than others due to size just to better manage it.

Eventually all the Communities will have featured posts. That will be one of my first tasks.

Due to the recent nastiness between blogs I was hesitant to read any of the sites. I noticed your input (on the real) and found it curious that you still support 9Rules. You’ve earned my trust and if you believe in them, so shall I no matter how tarnished they look right now.

Do you think the other networks will launch communities?

    5. Tyme Says:

Angel - I’m sorry I totally missed your question. I can’t say what any of the Communities are doing yet. Trust me, you’ll hear about it hear when I can say something and to be honest, it will most likely be when whatever it is launches.

Alexander - Yeah, I’ve been getting opinions about the recent drama going on. The only thing I can say about that is that no one is perfect and people make mistakes. The important thing is that those mistakes were owned up to and the people involved took responsibility for their actions, apologized and everyone is moving on. The people involved learned something and they are better people.

Personally I can’t think of a better result from making a mistake. :)

      Thank you!

If anyone tried to post and received an error the reason why: Expression Engine has a security feature where the admin can set it so duplicate comments are not accepted. Of course, I had this turned on (it’s on by default it seems) and didn’t think anything of it until someone sent me an email about it.

      Sorry!

Basically we needed intelligence and estrogen to set our boat back in the right direction. With you, Mike and Colin onboard, poor Scrivs has become expendable I think.

    9. Douglas Says:

Congratz! Intelligence and estrogen - I love it LOL.

I found sites that were probably there all the time. I wish there was more sites in the animals community. Is there an ETA on when there will be more sites added to the communities that have one or two sites in them?

You said that well. I read Jason’s responses in the other article and I am beginning to understand the differences between the businesses, I think.

      Thank you everyone!

Douglas - that’s a Scrivs question. I’ll do my best to get an answer for you.

Marlene - how much coffee have you had?

Alexander - It can be confusing. There are many networks that look like WIN from the outside but they aren’t run the same way. For example, Jason responded in that thread that writers cannot write the same material in the same medium. Many of the other networks allow it.

      Cowboy - Thank you :)

      Scrivs - expendable? Naw….

    14. Scrivs Says:

Douglas: We are definitely working on it and are going through our members to help us out. The history and literature categories are going to fill up real quick shortly and obivously animals is another one we need to go after strong.

Congratulations! I have a concern. Will you still talk about how to blog? I want to start a blog and your writings helped me to feel comfortable doing it. I would hate to see it stop.

      I second that.

Scrivs thanks for the response. Before the communities was it easy to tell where categories were filled and others were empty. What does Scrivs stand for?

Snap, I didn’t think of that. If you’re going to stop you can’t be director. End of story because you do too much good.

    18. Tyme Says:

No, I will not stop talking about how to blog smart but I will not talk about other networks because as I said before I think it’s a conflict of interest to do that. I practice what I preach. :)

You amaze me Tyme. I’ve been reading your blog for awhile and your honesty is refreshing. I can’t help but trust you always handle yourself with dignity and you’ve earned the respect you have. You’re a woman I truly admire. Congrats to you and 9Rules.

Valentine’s Day is coming up, do you have plans? I’ll fly where ever you are.

    20. Marion Williams Says:

Scrivs you aren’t expendable, you’re smart. Getting someone that is respected and liked for the position was a wise move. Getting the key people needed to do the task will directly affect the success of the business. I think we all saw in the cookie conversation that there is a chemistry that allows you two to disagree but still get along. That’s important for online interactions. I think that is why many online businesses don’t make it. The glue isn’t there to hold it together.

Dignity is an interesting description. The more I think about it the more accurate I think it is. I met Tyme at the meetup New Years. I found it odd how she has so much wisdom yet reeks innocence.

      > I met Tyme at the meetup New Years.

Jealous. I couldn’t go but I heard it was a lot of fun. I’m going next year. It’s cool to see who you’re talking with everyday.

Scrivs you are the foundation of 9Rules. You have a personality that attracts people to you. Sometimes you are so humble and honest it makes a girl want to throw herself at your feet. Men are rarely honest and humble.

Tyme are you getting online anytime today?

Posted on January 18th, 2006 at 2:57 pm

    22. Tyme Says:

Marion - “reeks of innocence”? Come on…must I reek of it?

Felicia - have you forgotten I now work with Scrivs and his ego now directly affects me? Throwing yourself at his feet…lord help us…

I’m on AIM for a minute but I really have to get some 9r stuff done today so I apologize if I am not as chatty as normal.

Raymond - Dignity is something I always try to maintain. Thank you for noticing it.

Scrivs is short for Scrivens. Just something people called me since I was little and I certainly wasn’t going to go with “Paul” for my online persona because it’s just not cool ;-).

Honest and humble? I have to show the ladies that one. You got my back right Felicia?
