Tyme’s 6 Golden Rules
Launching a new blog, I always ask myself why a new blog? Am I tired of blogging? Tired of the subject matter? Did I mess up something incredibly simple? Every time the answer is the same: subject matter change.
With tagging I no longer have to narrowly define my topics. The ability to subscribe to specific content is there. RSS readers make it very easy to get content on demand. I was still doing things the old way. Yes, a blog on that talks about one topic is, targeted to a specific audience is fine.
That’s not my audience, and I was (for lack of another word) pissing them off royally.
See, my readers and I didn’t really interact in comments; we had a blast via email. After joining 9rules, to interact with some 9rulers, they moved to comments, which was great. The problem: the conversation changed. My readers enjoy reading about new things but they don’t want technology, blogging, etc. everyday. They want a little of this, a little of that and a lot of fun.
So do I.
I have six rules I try to follow when I blog. Over the next week, I will be talking about each of these in depth. What are Tyme’s 6 Golden Rules?
- Enjoy blogging. When it stops being fun, stop.
- Be honest and interact with your readers.
- Interact with your readers.
- Check the facts. If you mess up, admit it.
- Be aware of what you are writing, and the consequences of it.
- Reader information is gold, be responsible with it.
When the 6 Golden Rules series is over, I will link to each article.

Raymond that is a pet-peeve for me, not admitting mistakes. I wrote an article about it on NTG. Because of the nature of the web, it’s important to correct so that everyone linking to the blogger is updated and corrects. A lot of false information out there.

I noticed a lot of bloggers do not admit they made a mistake. They just move on to the next thing. Hard to trust bloggers with that attitude.

You forgot one. Take advantage of your readers, they’ll leave.
