I made a change on the comment posting page removing the URL from the form. I received some feedback asking me why…so here’s the explanation.

I actually got the idea from Major Nelson’s blog. I was concerned that removing the URL would cause a drop in comment posting (not that this blog as a lot of comment posting. I get more email than comments, which I don’t mind at all, so keep it coming!) but I looked at his blog and it does not seem to be affecting his blog at all. I also noticed that the posters don’t feel the need to post their link in their comment either. I’m not sure how old the people are making the posts (I’m sure there are a lot of kids) but he’s most likely getting the feedback he wants.

Most spammers want their URL posted so I figured between the captcha and the lack of URL will cause spammers to lose interest in spamming my blog. So far it’s working beautifully. And my comment posting went up…go figure.

So I’m going to try it for a while and see what happens. If one is smart they have a distinguishable name so their comments can be found.
