Why don’t musicians have a blog?
My daughter ran into my room saying “Mom! Turn on BET! B5 is on!” I humored her and this cute boy band sang “All I Do”. So I asked her if they were related because they looked like brothers. She said she didn’t know. I asked how old they were - she said one is 15 and she didn’t know about the others. So we decided to look online.
First, their website is not listed on Google as B5 so I had to find their website from another source. The site is badly coded so you can’t find it. Instead of B5 it says 01 Home. Strike #1. The site is Flash and doesn’t load properly in Firefox (some pages are blank). So I had to pull out Maxthon to view it. Strike #2. I clicked on Events and the News section - empty. Strike #3.
Here’s an idea. Instead of a Flash site, get a blog and a couple of servers. Add a photoblog to it and some podcasts. That would make girls like my daughter very happy. There are five members in the group - each one post one message per day Monday - Friday. Do a 10-15 minute podcast once a week. The beauty of it? Their niche crowd doesn’t care “what” they say as long as they say “something”. They could talk about basketball practice and their niche crowd would swoon over it.
Such potential wasted on a stupid Flash site. Get a blog! Heck, Barbie dolls have a blog.
Oh, and while you are at it, use Technorati and PubSub to keep track of what is being said. Then this post would be found and improvements could be made like…oh, I don’t know…giving the people what they want to encourage us to by your CDs?
