Yahoo buys Dialpad

Yahoo purchased VoIP provider Dialpad Communications. The cost of the acquisition has not been released. Dialpad offers VoIP services to over 200 countries. This will enable Yahoo to develop new VoIP services. Dialpad will continue to accept new subscriptions for prepaid and monthly services but ceased its calling card service on June 13.

Om Malik confirmed that the phone companies are aware of this new deal (Yahoo/SBC offers dial up services). This could mean potential sales for SBC if the VoIP service was offered in addition to phone services.

Of course this is bad news for Skype. This isn’t the best news for Vonage either, since Dialpad claims to have 14 millions users.
