Yahoo Messenger 7.0 - VoIP
Yahoo Messenger 7.0 is taking on Skype by introducing VoIP – the ability to make free voice calls between computers and leave voice mail messages. This gives Yahoo Messenger a lead on Skype because Yahoo Messenger is offering free voicemail (Skype charges a small fee.
I played around with Yahoo messenger this morning and I have to admit that I will most likely use Yahoo more than Skype for personal (and perhaps business) interactions. One, the free voicemail puts it right over the top and makes it easier for me to keep in contact with people. Second, although there are millions of people using Skype there are just as many (if not more) using Yahoo simply because of all the features that Yahoo has. Think about it – with the improved Messenger, the Google type Yahoo mail, news filtering to me via RSS…I can go on and on.
Prediction: If Yahoo can be used to record podcasts like Skype, Skype is in serious trouble.
I keep reading about how Google is the #1 company. People need to open their eyes and look at Yahoo.
